Roller coasters
Authors Note: Because I'm a huge fan of roller coasters I decided to write about them.
You’ve been waiting in line for 45 minutes. You finally get to the front of the line. Heart racing and palms sweating you climb into the seat and pull the bar over your head. You hear a voice say “1 2 3” Next thing you know you’re lurching forward so fast you can’t pull your head back into the seat. All of a sudden you slam on the breaks and start going backwards. Looking back to see where you’re going you realize you’re about to run off the track. Last second you slam on the breaks again. You slowly inch towards the hill. Anticipation slowly creeping up from your toes to your head. You start to go up the hill, once you get to the top you stop. Opening your mouth to say something to your friend you get cut off by the screaming of everyone as you whip down the hill. Stomach in your ears you scream along with them. Then all of a sudden you can’t see. It’s dark. You see a light in the distance and try to follow it, and then you open your eyes. The ride is over. Roller coasters are the heart of all theme parks. They’re the joy you feel, the screams you say, and the stomach that drops. I’ve felt the drops, screamed the screams, and I know, that you can’t say roller coasters don’t mean something to you.
Rock ‘n’ Roll Roller coaster in Disney World has the power to take you from 0 mph to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. It’d take a huge body builder to pull their heads back in that speed. But, roller coasters are the ride that teenagers enjoy the most. They find roller coasters thrilling because they’re fast and furious. After reading some teenage reviews on roller coasters, I found out that even if some roller coasters aren’t their preference they still enjoy them. Roller coasters truly are the real deal.
So, how do they make roller coasters? How are these amazing things made? The making of roller coasters is a complicated process. First, you have to come up with an idea which then turns into a design. This is easy for creative people, but difficult for people without imaginations. Once the design is complete it’s time to find people that will build it. Then, with workers ready and money to pay them, it’s time to buy supplies. Such as, the track, the place where people are going to sit, wheels, engines, wood, etc. It’ll take a while to figure out what you all need. After this long process, you have to start building. This takes a long time, workers put in hard labor. Long sweaty hours, and long sleepless nights filled with anticipation for when the ride will be done. Each day they get farther and farther along with the progress of the ride. They try to estimate how many more days it will take. First it was 5 days, then 4, then 3, then 2, then 1…it was the last day. Everyone was rushing around the site putting the last touches on everything. A drop of paint here, polish over there, wheels tightened over there. Everything was perfectly ready. Opening day got closer and closer. With each minute that passed, the workers got more nervous. Soon, it was time to open the park. The visitors were ready to ride.
As the workers hear the people screaming, they wait anxiously on the sides. Waiting to hear either how awful or how awesome the ride was. Once the ride comes to a halt at the end of the track, they watch curiously as the people pile out of the ride. Peering at the faces of the crowd, they wonder how it was. A lady that looked about 20 came up to one of the workers, who was especially nervous, sweating all over. She said “I have never screamed so much in my life. That was a wonderful ride. A job well done.” Success. The pleasure that the workers felt was indescribable. After two months of long sweaty days, all the work paid off. The look on the people’s faces as they exited the ride was priceless. The workers had made another successful ride. If you were in the workers position you’d feel happy and excited too.
Roller coasters are the most enjoyable and most interesting rides at theme parks. They release all your inner feelings, while throwing you forward at amazing speeds. Ride a roller coaster, and then try to tell yourself you didn’t enjoy it. It’ll be hard, even if you don’t necessarily like roller coasters, you can’t say that you don’t enjoy going fast, and upside down. It’s your wild surge for that day. Everyone needs to let loose every now and then, and roller coasters are the perfect way to do that.
America, the real deal
Author's Note: Because I am proud of my country I wrote this to state the reasons why
As the red, white, and blue flag slowly waved in the wind I thought about what had been on my mind all day. Am I proud of this country? How could I not be! Each and every brave person that has made our country the safe and free place it is today. How far our country has come from when it was just the 13 colonies. Taking on the biggest army in the world. Fighting for freedom, this is what I think about and I just can’t believe how far we’ve made it. America is the bravest, strongest, and smartest country in the world.

If I had to pick one reason why I'm proud of our country, I wouldn't be able to pick. There's so many. Such as our patriotism, we have so many people that are proud of our country. One main patriotism act that rises above the rest, is saying the Pledge of Allegiance every day. That just shows how proud we are of our country. It amazes me, how the people of America appreciate what our people have done. Because that's the way it should be. Another reason I'm proud of this country is because of our bravery. Each day, more and more people enroll in the military. It takes a lot of guts, and determination to be able to do that. That’s one of the main reasons I’m so proud of this country. We stand up for what we believe in. Which makes us the successful country we are today, we work together to do what we think is right. This is definitely something to be more than proud of.
Between fighting for what we believe in, and showing our patriotism, America has earned me and many others to become proud of this country, which makes us happy citizens of this wonderful place we call home. America truly is the best country there is. I know I'm proud, are you?
The New Girl
Authors Note: This is about a book you and I can make a lot of connections in
If you were the new girl, living in a rich girl’s guesthouse, and all you wanted was friends, but you couldn’t have that, what would you do? In “ The Clique” Claire Lyons is like so many other new girls. All she wanted was friends. But that’s just it, making friends when you’re the new girl might just be the hardest thing you ever do.
In this book, Claire Lyons moves to Westchester, New York. Only to be greeted by the richest family she’s ever known. She immediately doesn’t fit in because she’s wearing overalls and Massie’s wearing designer. If there’s one thing Massie takes seriously, it’s clothes. Because of Claire’s choice in clothes, she’s immediately an outcast. After working so hard, Claire is finally “In”. But, 5 is an uneven number. So, if one comes, one goes, and that’s part of the reason this book is so interesting. There’s so much drama, it’s like you’re actually in middle school.
What you’ll like about this book is the theme. It’s so easy to relate to. It makes sense to write a book about a clique because it’s an easy thing to write a series about; a lot of people can relate to what happens in this book. The books also keep the readers involved because they have to keep reading the next books. So, that was smart on the author’s part. This book was the first in the series, and it was a good start to the series because it didn’t give away what’s going to happen in the books to come. So you have to keep reading if you want to find out what’s going to happen. My overall opinion on this book was that it was really good because I’ve never read a book where I could make so many connections and am actually looking forward to turning the pages. It’s a great series to get yourself into because you can make a lot of connections, and it gives adults an idea of what middle school is really like for kids. Teenage girls would really like these books because it’s kind of like a “how to” book on how to survive middle and high school. That’s part of the reason I like these books, there’s so many connections to be made.
Making new friends in a rich designer school when you’re used to people in a poor knockoff school can be really hard. But like Claire, you have to make the best of it. If you could, what advice would you give a new girl on how to make new friends in a school that is so different from what she’s used to?

The Great Land Giant
Author's Note: Elephants are my favorite animal,so I wrote about them
Entertaining as they march around
Entertaining as they march around
Lazy, because they’re huge and their legs must get tired
Excellent, they’re smart and loving
Patient creatures, they are patient while people throw them nuts
Helpful, they give people rides around. They are transportation to some
Appealing, they are attractive creatures
Never fail to entertain when they’re eating peanuts with their trunks
They enjoy peanuts and attention
Special, they are important to society
Candylicious
Author's Note: I love candy. So I wrote about my obsession
From sour patch kids, to skittles. Twix to snickers. Candy is enjoyable to everyone. Whether you like sour candy or sweet candy, there’s candy to suit everyone’s taste. It’s a quick treat when you’re hungry, you can easily grab it when you’re on the go. But, it’s not just an ordinary snack, it’s a yummy snack. It satisfies everyone’s sweet tooth and leaves them wanting more. Oh candy, you make my mouth water just thinking about you.

Cheerful Christmas
Author's Note: Christmas is my favorite time of the year. This is why
When I think about Christmas the first thing that comes to mind is presents. That’s pretty much why kids like Christmas so much. Not because of family and friends, or the decorations. It’s presents that make this a favorite holiday. The lights, decorations, and food also make this holiday a favorite amongst kids. Overall it’s just a cheer filled happy time of the year.

Fierce Fireworks
Author's Note: fireworks are the prettiest way to celebrate a birthday or other special occasion. I love them because of how pretty they are.
From red, to pink, blue to gold. Fireworks are the loudest yet the prettiest decorations. Little kids don’t like them because they’re loud, but I like them because they’re a really cool way to celebrate birthdays, 4th of July, and other holidays or special occasions. They light up the sky, and bring happiness and excitement to the people watching them. My favorite part of the 4th of July is going out on my boat and looking at all of the fireworks because they’re just so pretty.
Sunny Summer
Author's Note: I love summer, here are the reasons why-
Summer for me is sleeping in, and it’s warm outside. It’s my favorite season because there’s so much freedom, you can go to the beach, and the best thing is… it’s warm. My favorite things to do are go to the beach, and swim. I can do both of those during summer so that’s another reason why it’s my favorite season. I love all of the parties that my town throws and I love being able to say that I’m tan. It’s fun to be able to tan until you get hot, and then run down to the lake and cool off. That’s one of the benefits of living on the lake. When summer ends, I miss it. But, it gives me more to look forward to for the next year.
Desserts, the best thing in the world
Author's Note: I love dessert. Most people do, so here's some things why you could possibly like dessert
From chocolate pudding, to marble cake. Desserts are the best thing in the world. They satisfy you with all of your favorite things. Like caramel, or peanut butter. They have it all. Even though they’re not good for you, they’re good for my sweet tooth! I would never be able to pick just one as a favorite. There’s way too many, and I like them all. Well now I’m hungry. So I’m going to see which desserts I have in my lunch.
The Adventures Of Emu Boots
Author's Note: I got Emu's for Christmas. I couldn't help but thinking about the adventures they go through. That's why I wrote this
Hi, my name is Eliza. I’m a pair of Emu boots. I’ve had quite a journey so far. You wouldn’t even imagine all of the different places I’ve been and seen. So, stick around to hear my story.
I was made in a factory in China. They set me in a dark, cold, small box. I had no idea where I was; to be honest, I was scared. I felt myself get picked up and I slid back and forth in that box as a person carried me around. I heard the roaring engine of a truck as I was roughly thrown into the back. There was a small hole in the front of the box so I could see around, all I could make out in the darkness was boxes and boxes of other boots. I tried to yell to them but they couldn’t hear me over the loud roaring of the engine. As the person slammed the back door, I was engulfed in an eerie darkness.
When I woke up in the morning, the light was blinding. It took my eyes a couple of minutes to adjust to the sudden change in lighting. As I peeked out of my hole, I saw shelves. Confused, I looked around trying to make sense of something, anything. I saw legs, lots and lots of legs. Short legs, tall legs, fat legs, skinny legs, legs of all kinds. I was smart enough to know that those legs belonged to people. People that would hopefully buy me and put me to good use. A pair of tall legs started walking towards me, but they didn’t turn like all of the others did. They just kept coming towards me. My heart skipped a beat as I felt my box slide out of the shelf I was in. The lid that had kept me locked inside was lifted and it was so bright, I felt like I was walking on the sun. I looked up and saw that my savior was a young lady. She slid me on her feet and walked around. Oh, let me tell you, it felt nice to finally be used. Her feet fit perfectly in me. We were a perfect match.
The second she put me on, I knew we were meant for each other. When she slid me off her feet, I was disappointed. I thought I would be finding a home today. As she set me back into my box, I felt lonely. But, that lady didn’t put me back on the shelf. I could tell, because I didn’t get put down. She just kept carrying me around. As I peeped out my hole, I realized that I was on a table, and another lady was staring at me. I sunk farther back into my box, scared. I had no idea what was going on. All of a sudden there was a beeping noise, and boy was it annoying. Next thing I know, I’m getting pushed into a bag. Even though I can’t see, I know that there is something surrounding the perimeter of the box. Whoever was carrying me, was definitely not gentle. Banging into things made me ache all over. The last thing I remember before I blacked out, was the familiar roaring of a car engine.
Hi, my name is Eliza. As you can tell, I lived considering I told this story. The lady who took me out of that box that one day, had taken me home with her. I learned later that, that was called buying. I now have a good home, and that lady has faithfully worn me ever since that day.
Author's note: Finding quotes that I can relate to really helps me these days. This is one of the ones that help me, maybe it'll help you too.
" 1 universe, 9 planets, 204 countries, 809 islands, and I had the privilege to meet you,"
Author's note: Finding quotes that I can relate to really helps me these days. This is one of the ones that help me, maybe it'll help you too.
" 1 universe, 9 planets, 204 countries, 809 islands, and I had the privilege to meet you,"
This saying is very true. I have it memorized, and I think about it all the time. It made me realize how lucky I am to have some of the people I have in my life. Some people don’t have a lot of important people in their lives. So that’s why I like this quote, it reminds me that I’m lucky, and I need to appreciate the people that make my life special.
Friends Forever
Author's Note: I think friends are really important to have because they help you through so much. So, that's what this is about.
Between laughing until we can't breathe, making so many memories that we can't keep track of them all, and long phone calls about life, we became best friends. While going through the tough middle school years, it's important to have someone that goes through the hard times with you. That's why friendship is so important, it really helps you if you have someone there for you when you need them to be. Friends are good for having fun, and they're also good for stressful times too. Just like my favorite saying says "Best friends are the siblings God forgot to give us." They really are like family, and in time you'll stop thinking of them as friends; start thinking of them as part of the family.

Family is Forever
Author's Note: "Friends come and go, but family is forever."~anonymous. This quote is true, here's my reasons why.
When you're going through friend drama, your family is always there for you. They accept you for who you are, even when your friends don't. Your family is all of the people who love you for who you are and are the ones who help you back up when life pushes you down. Appreciating them is a small deed when they love you no matter what. They're the most important people in your life, and you need to make sure they know that.

The Hopeful
Author's Note: These books are just like real life middle school drama. The author's writing really makes you feel like you're in the story, and that's worth writing about.
When I used to dread going through the school doors every morning, being able to look forward to it seemed like a dream to me. Getting offered a position in the "Pretty Committee" had been something I'd wanted ever since I stepped foot in Westchester. Having the leader of the school like me, was the key to popularity. A key, that was now in my hands.
This is what Claire Lyons, an innocent teenage girl from Florida thinks about everyday. She went from being a loner to a person that people couldn't get enough of. Doing nice things for Massie, the head of the school had been a good idea even if Massie had wanted nothing to do with her. It was smart on Claire's part because look where she is now, she finally got herself "in". But the only thing harder than getting in is staying in.
In this series by Lisi Harrison the books revolve around the ups and downs of middle school for an all girls school. In this book in particular, Claire has finally made it "in". After being the new girl for the first few months of school, Claire was done with being treated as an outcast. She made her decision to fight for what she wanted. As you can tell, this was a success considering Claire is now officially a member of the famous "Pretty Committee".
These books show people what cliques are, and how they treat people. This series is good for teenage girls, and adults if they want to see what their kids have to go through. Even though these books aren't true, they give people an idea of what middle school is like. These books also teach people that lying may put off the truth for a little while, but not forever. This book has many life lessons similar to that, but that's one of the main ones.Realizing that making friends is the key to happiness is also one of the many life lessons.Another reason you might like these books is because you can make a lot of connections. If you've ever been a new girl you can relate to Claire, or if you're poor like Kristen, you can relate to her. There's so many connections to make, that it's easy to like these books because of that.
When you're going through a time where you can't put your feelings to words, these books really help. They give people an opportunity to relate to characters, and see what cliques are like without having to go through it in real life. Think about it, if you had the chance to make middle school easier for you, would you?

B for Bully
Author's Note: Although writing about what I read isn't my strong point, I needed to get my point across about bullying and there's no better way to do that than writing.
I lay my head down at night dreading the morning; I wake up just the same. Walking down the hallway I try to hide behind my books but it doesn't work, they see me anyways. Panicking I try my best to look tough as the Pretty Committee walks towards me. Not knowing what to expect I just keep walking and looking straight ahead. "Hey geek, give me your book report." the leader of the group says. I stop walking and gaze over at her. "No." I say. "What'd you say geek?" She practically spits at me. "nu nothing" I stutter. "That's what I thought" she says as she storms down the hallway. I sink back against a row of lockers and think to myself, "What did I ever do to deserve this?" Bullies make innocent people feel sad, lonely, depressed and they don't act like themselves; that's not right.
No one deserves to feel that way, and I came to this assumption after reading Sealed with a Diss by Lisi Harrison. Bullies are people that are insecure about themselves so they think it'll get better if they ruin someone else's life. According to Dr. Phil, 53%of girls from the ages of 11-17 have to go through the stress of getting bullied. That's why these books are great for girls in that age group. Whether they're the bully or the person getting bullied, these books teach them a lot. Parents can also learn a lot from these books, they can see the stress their kids go through while getting bullied. That way, they know how to help.
Girls take being insulted over the top which makes them the most important target for bullies. This is what happened to Layne Abeley in this book. No matter how hard she tried to get the Pretty Committee to like her, they always found something new to dislike. Layne couldn't find comfort in anything and dreaded going to school. A lot of girls can relate to Layne which makes reading these books more enjoyable. Connecting to the bully or the person getting bullied really makes reading this book more fun because you can put yourself into their shoes.
No one deserves to get bullied. Whether you're popular, or a nerd, no one deserves that. Everyone has the right to be themselves and that's what I learned from this book. Making connections to a book makes reading more fun. That's why these books are so fun to read. So put down what you're doing and pick up this book. It's not going to disappoint you.
The Backstabbers
Author's Note: When people can relate to what they're reading, it makes them more eager to read. That's what happened to me when I read this book, and that's what I hope happens to you when you read this essay.
Imagine dreading going to school not because of the work, but because of your friends. You never know who was your real friend or who was using you.One day you would think someone was your best friend, and the next day they would turn around and stab you in the back. I learned about this in Bratfest at Tiffany's by Lisi Harrison. Massie had no idea who liked her for her and who was just using her for her money. There's nothing worse than being used.
Teenage girls have an informal hazing into the teenage years. They get it much worse than guys, I'm talking about getting used, back stabbed, betrayed and much more. That's why this book is so helpful for girls in middle and high school. It's normal for all the drama but this book demonstrates when you take these things too far and the consequences that follow. This book also demonstrates how having a voice is important when people are trying to tell you what to do. Being independent is one of the most important parts of the teen years.
This story is like most modern TV shows, after reading this book I realized that most things on TV, magazines or books revolve around the stressful years for teenagers because so many people can relate to what goes on. Lisi Harrison makes everything so vivid and realistic.Understanding why all this stuff happens makes going through it so much easier for girls.By reading these books parents can learn why girls are so dramatic and emotional. That's not the only thing you'll learn from this book though. Being on top is also shown in this story. Competition is raging throughout this book and I couldn't help but picture girls in my school going through it, which made me and will hopefully make you stay tuned into the story.
Being used, backstabbing, and betrayal are part of getting older. Although they won't be your fondest memories, they will be some of the most important ones. This is simply because they help you grow as a person. I learned all this in this book; I got a lot out of what the author was saying. Hopefully you will too.

Fantasy at a Glance
Author's Note: This is a writing circle piece from 5/9/12. Look for all my different comparisons.
As little girls we fantasized about one day being princesses and living in huge castles. As we got older, this fantasy got less and less realistic. Now, being the teenagers that we are, our fantasies are much different. Instead of dreaming of unicorns, castles, and princes, we fantasize about our future. Our families, houses, and jobs. Fantasies are an important part of our lives because it gives us something to look forward to. It’s like a never ending dream. Dreams never die, and neither do fantasies.
BEAUTIFUL BEACHES
Author's Note: This is a writing circle piece from 5/11/12. I miss summer because I love going to the beach. That's what helped me write this. Pay attention to all of my different characteristics of beaches.
I have soft sand, sunny skies, and people like going to me during the summer. What am I? Yes, you guessed right. I’m a beach. Being a beach isn’t all that glorious though. I get stepped on all day long and on really bad days, people throw garbage at me. If I could have one wish, it would be to be human. Summer is my least favorite time of year because I have to watch people have fun and all I can do is sit and watch. it must be nice to have arms and legs. I wouldn’t know what that’s like. Although beaches are fun, that doesn’t mean I enjoy being one. If I could have anything in the world, I would want to be human.
Crazy Cell Phones
Author's Note: This is a writing circle piece from 5/14/12. I love having a cell phone but girls like Alexa take this advantage too far.
Beep, Beep, Beep. Alexa rolls over as she hears her phone beeping. Losing sleep because of late night texts is a normal occurrence for Alexa. That brings me to my next point, cell phones are good for some things but not for others. Yes, they’re nice to have so you can text and call your friends, but losing sleep because of them is ridiculous. That’s why parents should have more boundaries with cell phones. If anyone found out I said that, they’d flip out. But it’s true! If only more people realized it.

Super Sleep
Author's Note: This is a writing circle piece from 5/17/12. I love sleep so this was easy to write about.
My mom awakes me from the dark. The dark that had been consuming me for the last 8 hours. Rolling over, I glare at the clock. It mocks me. 6:02 am means time to wake up. As I force myself to get out of bed, I remember when I was crawling into bed last night. There was so much in store for me, I love to sleep and I was content because of the fact that I was going to sleep. As the day drags by, I fantasize about when I can go to sleep again. Starting a countdown, I realize how much I long for the comfort of my bed.
