Alliteration

It was a beautiful day in Miami. Sally strutted down the sandy street in her stylish sundress and sandals. The wind blew through her air and she felt like a model. Smiling at everyone she saw, Sally truly felt like a celebrity. Then as she turned the corner she ran right into a stop sign. Not so stylish now Sally.

Irony
Lisa looked out the window and thought, “Wow. What a beautiful day-freezing rain and a chance of hail.” She sat down and watched the weather and was surprised that her prediction was right. There was freezing rain and a chance of hail. “I should be a weatherman” she thought to herself as she grabbed an umbrella and headed outside.

Oxymoron

At lunch one day, Brooklyn was bored. She decided to tell her friends a story about putting worms in a blender. The disgusted looks on their faces pleased her. But the loud silence that followed her story quickly educated her that she shouldn’t have told that story. But, at least she wasn’t bored anymore.

Pun
Farmer Joe has a son named Billy. Whenever the sun comes out, his son is the first to run outside. This is simply because Billy loves the outdoors. Especially when it’s warm outside. When it’s warm outside Billy loves to swim, run and climb. It’s hard to do these things when it’s not warm outside and that’s the main reason Billy loves the sun so much.

Hyperbole
Troy pulled his gun out of its case and headed for the door. Walking through the woods, he stopped as he saw movement behind a tree. Silently moving his gun to his eye he took aim. The shot echoed throughout the entire forest. Instantly, millions of bugs swarmed the dead bunny. As Troy headed for home he thought of how he would cook the bunny for dinner.

Personification
As the teacher announced that it was time for show and tell all of the students put their books away. While all the students took a seat on the floor, the teacher pulled Mason aside. “Why don’t you go first today?” she asked him. “Okay” he replied. Walking towards the chair in the center of the floor Mason could feel everyone staring at him. “Today I’m going to share a sad story”, he began. By the end of his story, everyone’s eyes were watering. Boy, his story could make trees weep.

Simile

Delaney stepped onto the field just as the whistle blew. Getting into position, she watched the referee put the ball into play. Her best friend, Alexis kicked the ball in her direction. Instantly surrounded by the other team, Delaney started to run. Before she could get out of the way, a girl from the other team kicked her in the back of the shin. It wouldn’t have hurt so badly if the girl wasn’t wearing cleats. Tumbling to the ground Delaney starts to scream out in pain. The whistle blows and her coach runs out to her. Delaney doesn’t want to look at her leg because she fears the worst. Alexis rushes to her side as Delaney begins to cry. Her coach helps her up and Delaney waves to her teammates as she realizes she’s being taken out of the game. Her leg feels as heavy as stones as she limps across the field. The only thing worse than the pain, was the fact that she would have to sit on the sidelines and watch her team play the game that she couldn’t be a part of.
 Metaphor
Reality hit him as his eyes flew open. He had slept in again. Rushing around the house trying to gather his things, Ryan panicked as he thought of what his boss would say. As he runs to the car, he can’t help but imagine the worst. Pulling into the parking lot Ryan realizes that he has 3 minutes before work starts. His cheetah paced run helped him get from the parking lot to the office in 2 minutes. “Cutting it close again, aren’t we?” the secretary says to Ryan as he steps off the elevator. Ryan smiles and steps into his office. He’d made it just in time.
